From the TL: Why We Believe OU Students Will Change the World

With Cru at the University of Oklahoma, we believe that OU students will change the world!

I would love to share with you how.

To do that, I want to first take you onto the campus at OU. Imagine driving down I35, exiting at Lindsey street and approaching Owen Field, towering over the Horizon. Just before you get to the football stadium, you’ll come to an open area called the South Oval. On the far edge sits the timeless, Bizzell Memorial Library. The paths along the south oval are immaculately landscaped with flowers of crimson and cream. The grass cut perfect.

At the near edge of the south oval sits a statue of a farmer reaching into his seed bag and scattering seeds across the field. The Sower Statue was built in 1950 and perfectly describes the reality of today’s college campus.

Just as a seed can grow to maturity or die off in the elements, a similar set of outcomes mirrors the spiritual life of students at OU. One of life and one of threat. Students can grow to be a mature person who’s life blesses and encourages others in their faith. Of their spiritual life can die off due to the harshness of the worldly elements on the college campus.

Think for second. Ask yourself, what is the difference between the two? What one variable makes the biggest difference between growing in your spiritual life and it dying off?

I want to suggest to you the difference is simply this, one person.

One person going across campus and helping studnets know Jesus. Helping show that the elements of the world aren’t worth it. That following Jesus is actually the source of life.

In addition, the impact that one person can have by discipling another follower of Jesus to multiply their faith. The effect of one person going overseas with Cru and sharing the gospel in another country. The impact on a community that one person can have if they love God, walk with Him and inspire their neighbors, coworkers, other PTA members and other parents on their kids sports teams to do the same.

With Cru at OU, we believe it’s the job of our staff and student leaders to be that one person for students at OU.

As we move forward, winning people to Jesus, building them to a mature faith and sending them out on mission, the impact one person can make will have a ripple effect. This ripple effect will continue to spread and eventually impact the rest of campus, the rest of Oklahoma, the US and the world.

By walking deeply with God, and making disciples, we believe that OU students can change the world!

If you would like to have this type of impact or are wondering how you can navigate one of those things choking out your spiritual life, we want to help.
